How to Run an Advent Coloring Countdown
An advent calendar does not have to be chocolate or toys. A coloring countdown gives kids a small ritual every day in December, and at the end they have 25 finished pages to keep.
How it works
- Print 25 pages before December starts. Number them 1 to 25.
- Each evening, your child colors the page for that day.
- Hang the finished pages in a line on the wall, so the line grows toward Christmas.
Make it special
- Keep the pages in a box and let the child 'open' each day.
- On weekends, color together.
- On Christmas Eve, look back at the whole row.
Keep it easy
Short pages work best on busy school nights. Ten minutes is enough.
Good picks to look at
These are widely sold, well-known options that match the advice above. Check the age label and current price on the product page.
Crayola Washable Broad Line Markers
The classic classroom marker. Washable ink comes out of most skin and fabric with soap and water, and the broad tip fills big shapes fast.
Watch out: Washable does not mean stain-proof on every fabric. Pre-treat clothes before they dry.

A thick round crayon is the natural next step after egg crayons. Thicker sticks break less often than standard ones.
Watch out: Kids who peel paper will peel these too. That is normal and they still work.

For crayons and colored pencils, normal printer paper is fine and cheap. Bright white paper makes colors pop.
Watch out: Thin paper is not good for markers. Use cardstock for those pages.
