Christmas Coloring Activities for Kids at Home and in Class
December is long when you are small. Coloring is one of the easiest ways to fill the waiting with something calm, and it costs almost nothing.
Five easy ideas
- Color one page every evening as a countdown to Christmas.
- Turn colored pages into wrapping paper for small gifts.
- Cut out colored Santas and stars to make gift tags.
- Hang a 'gallery' of finished pages on a string with clothes pegs.
- Mail a colored page to grandparents instead of a store card.
For teachers
- Print one simple page per child for the last school days before the break.
- Thick lines help younger classes finish in one session.
Supplies to have ready
A box of washable markers, a few crayons and some red and green pencils cover almost everything.
Good picks to look at
These are widely sold, well-known options that match the advice above. Check the age label and current price on the product page.
Crayola Washable Broad Line Markers
The classic classroom marker. Washable ink comes out of most skin and fabric with soap and water, and the broad tip fills big shapes fast.
Watch out: Washable does not mean stain-proof on every fabric. Pre-treat clothes before they dry.

Twist-up crayons in a plastic barrel. No paper to peel and no sharpening, which is handy for ages 4 and up.
Watch out: Little kids may twist out too much and snap the tip. Show them one click at a time.

For crayons and colored pencils, normal printer paper is fine and cheap. Bright white paper makes colors pop.
Watch out: Thin paper is not good for markers. Use cardstock for those pages.
