Dinosaur and Animal Coloring Ideas for Kids
Animals and dinosaurs are the topics kids ask for most. Here are a few ways to turn a simple coloring page into a longer activity.
Animal sound game
Before coloring, ask: 'What does a cow say?' Kids who make the sound get to pick the next color.
Dinosaur birthday table
Print a stack of dinosaur pages and put them on the kids' table with crayons. Guests have something to do while they wait for cake.
Make up a story
When the page is done, ask your child to tell you the animal's name and what it did today. Write the story on the back.
Real or pretend colors
Some kids want a real-looking lion. Others want a purple one. Both are right.
Good picks to look at
These are widely sold, well-known options that match the advice above. Check the age label and current price on the product page.
Crayola Washable Broad Line Markers
The classic classroom marker. Washable ink comes out of most skin and fabric with soap and water, and the broad tip fills big shapes fast.
Watch out: Washable does not mean stain-proof on every fabric. Pre-treat clothes before they dry.

A thick round crayon is the natural next step after egg crayons. Thicker sticks break less often than standard ones.
Watch out: Kids who peel paper will peel these too. That is normal and they still work.

A firm surface helps in the car, on the sofa or in bed when a child is sick.
Watch out: Pick one with a clip so the page does not slide.
